Gardens For Wildlife Ballarat

Gardens for Wildlife Ballarat is a free, community-based gardening program that helps people provide wildlife-friendly spaces in their gardens. We can all contribute to the survival of wildlife by providing suitable places (habitat) for birds, insects, frogs, lizards and other animals. Connecting to nature in our gardens is also good for our own health!

Meet friendly volunteer wildlife garden guides who will share practical and interesting tips about what creatures need. Plant up your own local native plants to start your own patch for visiting critters!

Slow down and explore the words of poets through the ages and contemporary local poets at this year’s festival. Find our Poet-Tree and take the time to let the poetic voice describe and translate environmental matters. Not every poem hanging from the trees will speak to you, but we guarantee at least one will.

Spinners and Weavers

Try your hand at weaving, spinning and felting, or watch the Ballarat Spinners and Weavers at work during their live demonstrations.

Watch the masters at work in the Ballarat Woodworkers Guild marquee. Young visitors will receive a small wooden gift made on-the-spot by these skilled artisans.

Fish Hatchery Tours

See wild trout and learn more about the incredible efforts of volunteers over the past 148 years at the Ballarat Fish Hatchery.

Guided Tours at 10am, 12pm, 2pm daily (allow approximately 25 minutes).

The hatchery will also be offering tours on demand through the entire long weekend.
